Hill Day March 9th, 2022

TCCN’s Hill Day is right around the corner. We'll be set up for breakfast and lunch in Conference Room 5C of the Cordell Hull State Office Building for this wonderful day of advocacy.
Register for hill day

Thursday, March 3rd What to Expect from Hill Day Webinar

Why is TCCN’s Hill Day important?

  • Many State Legislators are not familiar with the needs of the uninsured or with your role in providing them health care services
  • They need you to educate them about the work that your organization does in their district(s)
  • Typically, the legislator will offer 10-15 minutes for you to tell them all about your mission and the difference that your organization makes in the lives of your neighbors throughout your service area
  • There are some legislators, thankfully, who have served for many years and know your invaluable work. You may have hosted these legislators at your clinic (an excellent way to build awareness and support!)

What do I need to do to prepare for Hill Day?

  • Most importantly, identify each of the legislators (House and Senate) that represent districts in your service area (see below)
  • You can find this information on the Tennessee General Assembly Website: https://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/Apps/fmlv3/districts.aspx
  • Please remember to reach out to legislators in all the counties where your patients live, not just those where your organization is located
  • Call and make an appointment to meet with each legislator on March 9th. Many members try to make all their appointments in the morning so they can head home in the afternoon
  • Bring your program’s brochures or fact sheets
  • Bring your business cards
  • Wear your organization name tag if you have one

What can you expect from TCCN?

  • TCCN is hosting a webinar about TCCN’s Hill Day, on March 3rd at 11:00 AM CST. Please attend and if you cannot, we will record the webinar for your reference
  • We will provide you with a TCCN Fact Sheet and talking points to share with your legislators
  • If you would like, we will provide a seasoned companion to meet with you and your legislators – you don’t have to do it alone!
  • Pep talk and talking points again over breakfast foods
  • Debriefing and networking over lunch
  • Any other type of help you might request

What will I miss if I don’t come to TCCN’s Hill Day?

  • TCCN is a network of amazing organizations and people. Being together and networking with each other is a gift of immeasurable value!
  • Legislators genuinely enjoy and appreciate meeting their constituents. You are voters and influencers in the communities you serve, the communities that they represent
  • The realization that advocacy is one of your superpowers! Armed with your TCCN fact sheet and your organizational brochure, your testimony makes you a hero to your colleagues, staff, and patients!
