Dr. Carroll's policy experiences and partnerships with community-based organizations, and community experts informs the issues that are relevant to her program of research further facilitating big system change. Dr. Carroll has received small grants from organizations, is a member of several professional and civic organizations and has authored as well as co-authored peer-reviewed papers. She also regularly presents at scientific and community meetings.

F. Nicholas Sollog III, Founder & CEO, has been a development professional for over 20 years. In 2009 he formed The Sollog Group, a consulting firm dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations raise more money in less time. The group’s practice focuses on capital campaigns, annual giving, database administration, and prospect development. Prior to consulting, Nick worked in the University of Richmond and the University of Lynchburg development offices. Born and raised in Richmond, VA, Nick graduated from the University of Lynchburg with a BA in International Relations. His advanced education includes certificates from the University of Richmond's Institute of Philanthropy in Grant Writing & Management, Fundraising & Development, and Nonprofit Marketing. Nick is involved in the local community both personally and professionally. He currently sits on the board of Shood. He is a life-long Episcopalian, an active communicant, and a former Vestryman at Grace & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Nick’s professional memberships include the Virginia Association of Fundraising Executives, Association of Fundraising Professionals, Association for Advancement Services Professionals, Apra International, and Apra-Virginia.

Communication Skills for Leaders

Therefore, leaders with poor communication skills cannot advance an organization to high performance levels. This session will focus on improving your communication skills in order to improve your performance as a leader or as a team member. We will explore written and spoken communication, body language, and listening skills.

I serve as the Associate Dean for Rural and Community Programs and Professor of Family Medicine at the Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. In this role I oversee a staff responsible for EQUIP (college student pathway program), Rural Primary Care Track, Underserved Medicine clerkship, Global Health, and our community and state partnerships. Additionally, I teach family medicine residents for ETSU Health, and participate in medical student education on many levels. I received my MD from the University of Kentucky and family medicine residency with the University of Alabama-Birmingham. I grew up in one of the most distressed counties in the Eastern Kentucky Appalachian mountains and have dedicated my career to serving those less fortunate.
